Alaina Dobkowski

MA, MDIV, BSW

Owner & Consultant

I am committed to cultivating thriving, equitable communities and value partnerships with organizations that share these core principles. At the heart of my work is offering meaningful support to staff and teams so they can fully realize their mission and vision. Through grant development, tailored fundraising solutions, strategic planning, equity coaching, and close collaboration with staff, I help organizations build the strategy and secure the resources needed to achieve their vision. Over the past two decades, I have held leadership and advancement positions at organizations dedicated to community building and systems change. My expertise includes grant writing, partnership development, organizational leadership, and youth initiatives, with work spanning food systems, education, antiracism, and social enterprise. Today, in addition to my work with Both/And Strategies clients, I serve as Pastor of Grand Rapids Mennonite Fellowship, as a facilitator within the CORE Collective (Congregations Organizing for Racial Equity), a nonprofit board member, and a grassroots organizer. These roles continue to shape how I show up in my consulting work through holding complexity with care, grounding strategy in relationships, and approaching change through a both/and lens that honors people, process, and possibility.  I understand how challenging community-centered work can be when resources are limited, and I’m ready to partner with you to provide the extra capacity needed to move forward.

Consultant

With 20 years of experience managing programs across the nonprofit, governmental, and private sectors, I specialize in bridging the gap between resources and the communities that need them through grant writing and clear communication strategies. This work has meant partnering with organizations in the legal, health, and environmental fields, transforming complex needs into funded programs and messaging that ensures essential services actually reach the people they're designed to support. I bring an audience-first approach to my work. I have optimized messaging for a major Michigan health department, pioneered Indiana's first pro se (self representation) legal help desk, and created content for a nationwide women's health platform. Along the way, I've secured nearly $1M in grant funding for my clients that has given them the strategic resources to build capacity and implement their vision. Outside of work, I'm a parent, a community organizer, and a board member of a local nonprofit in Grand Rapids, MI. I'm regularly translating complex or unfamiliar information for different audiences, whether that means outlining ways for neighbors to drive local change, or explaining new concepts to my children. These roles reflect my values of nurturing growth, equitable processes, and making a positive impact in my community. I find deep joy in this work, and am looking forward to coming alongside your organization to help you achieve your goals!
